Croatian Book Month 2018 (15 October - 15 November 2018)

The Croatian Book Month is a traditional event organized and realized since 1995 in cooperation with the Programme and Organizational Committee of the Zagreb City Library under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia. During one month (15 October to 15 November), both the national and local level strive to speak about the book as intensively as possible, both from the perspective of those dealing professionally with books and those using library services, bookstores, etc. The idea is to gather all those really interested in books in a variety of programmes.

The event central programme consists of the following:
event opening ceremony, national quiz to foster reading in children and young people, celebration of the Croatian Library Day on 11 November, one-day reading in kindergartens, schools, libraries, retirement homes and participation of libraries at Interliber. At local level, each institution, almost always a library organises its own programme with associates and partners: forums, presentation of new editions, showings of new titles, celebrations of anniversaries of important people, animation and education activities. The number of participants has significantly increased over time: in 1995 102 libraries with around five hundred programmes took part in celebrating the Croatian Book Month, while in 2017 over two thousand programmes have been organised in 213 libraries, mostly national ones, while school libraries are also getting more and more involved.

The European Commission has declared 2018 the European Year of Cultural Heritage, and precisely that will the backbone of this year Croatian Book Month. As every year, a motto will be created on the theme of cultural heritage, under which the Croatian Book Month entire programme will take place.
