Fortified Cities, Open Societies


2 March 2018 – The Croatian Commission for UNESCO at the Ministry of Culture, UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Culture in Europe and the Šibenik-Knin County are organizing a workshop titled Fortified Cities, Open Societies of the Regional Network for the Management of Historical Walls and Fortresses in World Urban Heritage Goods in Europe, to be held from 5 to 6 March 2018 in Šibenik.
 
This conference is a continuation of last year's Conference on fortified cities held in Siena, Italy, and is about promoting UNESCO Recommendation on Historical Urban Landscape
 
The workshop is aimed at enhancing the knowledge and understanding of participants in accessing the Historical Urban Landscape (HUL), which promotes its implementation. Specifically, attention will be paid to the specificities of the HUL application in World Heritage Goods with significant presence of historical walls, fortresses and fortified urban spaces.
 
The participants of the meeting will be Mayors and representatives of city authorities of fortified cities across Europe, UNESCO Chairpersons in the area of urban conservation and restoration, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO, as well as other experts related to the same topic.
