5th International Archaeology Film Festival (MFAF) Split (November 8 – 9, 2018)

5th INTERNATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGY FILM FESTIVAL (MFAF)
Split, Croatia
November 8 – 9, 2018

International documentary film festival about archaeology, cultural and historical heritage, monument protection and anthropology

By organizing the only international archaeology film festival in Croatia, the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments presents to the local audience top international and national documentary films. The festival program lasts two days, and besides the competition program, offers an accompanying program such as presentation of latest Croatian and/or European museum projects, Croatian retrospective and educational workshops for young visitors.
The Festival contributes to the valorization of cultural heritage and archaeological research. It is a platform for cooperation and exchange of ideas between museum professionals (archaeologists, art historians and historians) on the one side, and film professionals on the other, all with the aim of improving the quality of archaeology/museum film production.

This event has enriched the city of Split with one more festival, yet, completely different by content from the existing ones, and namely in November when the city lacks cultural events. By the quality of its program, the Festival adds to a richer cultural offer of the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, but also, of the city of Split, the County and Croatia.

The venue of the Festival is also unique - the impressive central exhibition hall with a surface of approx. 1,000m2 where films are screened in the evening hours,  has so far welcomed more than 1,600 festival spectators. This event, that since its first edition has shown 45 films in the competition program, is mainly intended for a wider local audience. Entry to all programs is free of charge, and all foreign films have Croatian subtitles.

Since the Festival is based on a popular media - film, we have succeeded in reaching new audiences offering them archaeology and museum programs in a different way, and being a unique film festival in Croatia, we have established very good cooperation with all mass media.
